We are in the midst of a new season and we strive towards workplace well-being. It is spring time, a season of new beginnings. Many have set new career and personal goals for themselves including; to work harder towards getting that promotion, increase sales revenue, gain a new skill, become a robust networker, to buy a new car, the list is endless. These are all great goals to aspire to, but how many people have actually set a goal to be well in all aspects of their lives – mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically and financially? Holistic well-being is the most essential goal that we should all aspire to; this will not only inevitably have a positive impact in our careers but our personal lives too.

The past two years have been challenging with the COVID pandemic which has resulted in many falling seriously ill, many sadly losing their loved ones, the economy being pushed into a sharp contraction, and people losing their jobs. This evolution has meant that people have had to increase their capacity to cope with multiple traumas and significant changes simultaneously. All this stress is more reason why before everything else, holistic workplace well-being and self-care should be key. The more you work on your overall well-being, the stronger you become to face the challenges of life. It is beneficial to face career, personal and general challenges of life with healthy well-being.

According to the SHRM Foundationemployee health status directly influences work behaviour, attendance, and on-the-job performance. High-performance companies clearly understand the human-capital-driven health and work behaviour equation that results in workplace well-being.’

It is imperative that Employers play a role in promoting holistic wellness in the workplace. This will not only be beneficial to the employees but ultimately the organisation and bottom-line. Below are a few tips:

  • Encourage rest and regular breaks

  • Implement mental health and stress relief activities

The best decision employers can make is to actively encourage wellness and workplace well-being.  Finally, the best decision you can make for yourself, your career, and the people you love is to Be Well, Holistically. We challenge you to begin working towards your overall well-being this spring and beyond. May you prosper and be in good health.
